The Addiction Matters Kamloops (AMK) coalition was formed in 2015 and works to bring together community groups, organizations and individuals who are committed to increasing compassion and awareness and ending the stigma toward individuals and families impacted by substance use. Since its start, AMK has led various community projects and engagement initiatives including International Overdose Awareness day events on August 31st each year.
This year, AMK has partnered with Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc to host a film screening at the Paramount Theatre in Kamloops of Kimmapiiyipitssini: The Meaning of Empathy.
Follow filmmaker Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers as she creates an intimate portrait of her community and the impacts of the substance use and overdose epidemic. Witness the change brought by community members with substance-use disorder, first responders and medical professionals as they strive for harm reduction in the Kainai First Nation.
There will be free popcorn provided for the first 100 guests and the concession stand will be a fully stocked with all of your favourite movie snacks available for purchase.
